Division U is the smallest and weakest Division in District 80. Fellow Division U Toastmasters,
this is a statement that did not brood well with all of us and it leaves a tinge of distaste in our mouth.
I had presented you with the facts and figures that Division U is the smallest and weakest Division at the COT
I but also encouraged all the Club Executive Committee teams to continue to help our members in their
educational excellence. I had taken a big risk in presenting a gloomy picture as nobody likes to listen to
the bad stuff. I will be an ineffective leader if nobody listens.
Today, I am pleased to inform you that we are BACK. We are back on our feet and is
poised to be a stronger division this term. Three Clubs attained FIVE DCP Points at this juncture
and they are Tanglin TMC, Kowloon-Singapore TMC and Lengkee TMC. Tanglin TMC and Kowloon-Singapore TMC
are Distinguished Clubs but Leng Kee TMC need to submit their membership dues to charter strength to
achieve that. I have confidence that they will accomplished that soon. We also have four "Almost
Distinguished Club" with four DCP Points. They are Toastmasters Club of Singapore, Information Technology
Management Association TMC, Dover TMC and Flagmasters TMC. All these are the results of the hard work
put in by your Area Governors and all the Club Executive Committees 2011/2012. Let's give them a round of
applause as appreciation of their good leadership.
Area U2 achieves 76 % of the Area Goals and is currently in the third position whereas Area U4 is
in tenth position followed by U3 and U1. This Area positions will change by end of today when more of you
completed your Competent Communicators Manual or your Advanced Manual and submit it to Toastmasters
International. All these indicated that Division U have a good headstart and we are back.
Fellow Division U Toastmasters, nobody remembers a good headstart as everyone is only concerned
with who is the one who cross the finished line. I therefore urge you to take stock and reflect on what you
have accomplished the last five months. Some of you might want to relent and give up. Yes, it is very easy to
give up. We always tell ourselves that we are very busy and have no time for this and that and also
for toastmasters matters. All these excuses showed a lack of will on our part to pursue our
educational excellence and we just need to relook at why we join toastmasters club in the first place. We
can use our common sense to review our successes or failures and ascertain a) What to Change
b) What to Change to and c) How to change it. If you do not have the answers to all these problems, do not fret
as we will have some Distinguished Toastmasters at the COT II to assist you in this aspect.
The important thing is not to give up and overcome your wall of worry, your wall of uncertainty
because of your failures. You need to draw lessons from your failures and made the necessary
changes to improve your productivity. It is also equally important to analyse your successes to give you a
clue as to what really works and duplicate your successes to move from strength to strength. We need
to avoid the pattern of failures and follow the pattern of success and SOAR to greater heights.
SEE YOU AT THE TOP !!!

Steven Choon ACS/ALB
