Summary of the event:

Our Division U Governor, Steven Choon ACS,ALB gave the welcome address and encouraged the Area Governors and the clubs to spur on in their Toastmasters journies. We have a good headstart but need to draw lessons from our failures and build on our successes to soar to even greater heights by the end of this term 2011/2012.

 

The Toastmaster-of-the-Day, Suanny Gouw introduced the order of the meeting.

The prepared speeches followed with 5 CCs and 5 Advanced Project speeches.

1.      P9 Aileen Tan from ITMA with “A Call to Support EH  spoke on climate change and persuaded us to support Earth Hour. Her evaluator was Nigel Wong CC from IFPAS.

2.      P9 Amy Leung from Kowloon-Singapore asked “Waste – Do We Matter?” She highlighted the huge amount of trash that we in Singapore, dump, and persuaded us to Reduce, Reuse and Recyle. Her evaluator was Steven Choon ACS,ALB  Division U Governor.

3.      P9 Jonathan Phua from Dover gave us pointers on “How to get ahead in Life”. He persuaded us to FOCUS on the 1% that gives the highest return. His evaluator was Lawrence Quek DTM from Whampoa CC.

4.      P10 Dennis Lee from Dover told us the importance of “Feedback” How feedback from commanding officers and during his toastmaster speech evaluations, has made him a better person. His evaluator was Mohammad Saddiq ACS, ALB from Nee Soon East.

5.      P10 Thomas Paul from Tanglin inspired us to view long term goals by using visual reminders, of where and what we are aiming for in order not to be “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”. His evaluator was Mohammad Taufiq CC, ALB.

6.      AP5 Special Occasions Speeches – Accepting an Award.  Ramana Boyanni CC. CL from Kowloon-Singapore was accepting the President's Distinguish Award and gave a speech to thank “The Team Work” His evaluator was Savitri Iyer DTM from Tanglin.

7.      AP5 Speaking to Inform – A Fact Finding Report. Sudhan Purushothuman CC from Leng Kee lectured us on “The Science Behind Aircraft Flight”.  His evaluator was Gerald Ong ACG, ALS from Hong Kah North.

8.      AP4 Special Occasion Speeches – Presenting the Award.  Victor Ng CC from IFPAS was presenting the Financial Advisor of the Year award with his speech titled “ The Amazing One!” His evalutor was Patricia Lum DTM from Punggol.

9.     AP4 Humorously Speaking – Keep Them Laughing. Bala Muthukrishnan CC from Leng Kee kept us in stitches when he narrated his experience of using the toilet in a “Third World” country. Well, we will not mention the country. His evaluator was Venkataraman Ram Prassad ACS, ALB from ITMA.

10.  AP Speaking to Inform – The Abstract Concept. Anthonius Triono Pranoto ACB from Kowloon-Singapore gave us a concept used for “How to Choose Your Own Boss”. His evaluator was Walter Lee ACB,ALB from Buona Vista.

 

The break was a great time for networking and recharging. The refreshments was specially selected by Taufiq and received good feedback and praise from the attendees. 

   

Evaluations of the Prepared Speeches followed after the break with everyone learning from the invaluable feedback.

 

The last session of the Achiever’s day was the bonus workshop on Table Topics Evaluations conducted by Gerald Ong ACG, ALB.

 

The winner of the

- Best CC Project Speaker was Jonathan Phua

- Best AP Speaker was Bala Muthukrishnan CC

- Best Evaluator was Mohammad Saddiq ACS, ALB

 

Lt Governor  Education & Training, Patrick Oei DTM presented the CC pins and AC pins with the new logo to members who completed or were due to complete their projects by the end December 2011. It was definitely the icing on the cake.

 

Area U1 and U3 Governors would like to thank all for being there and participating in the event and most importantly Steven Choon ACS,ALB for his guidance and leadership.
